Integrating information from the different maps allows the reader to appreciate the landscape they are exploring. The same is true for cellular maps that chart genetic, protein or functional interactions within the cell. Now, in Journal of Biology [1], Frederick (Fritz) Roth from Harvard Medical School and colleagues from Toronto and Montreal describe key topological features of an enormous map of macromolecular interactions in yeast (see ‘The bottom line’ box for a summary of the work).
